During my time working in a local florist, I realised it wasn't only me who found writing a sympathy card one of the hardest things to do. Suffering personal and close loss myself I understand that the death of a loved one is definitely the most emotional time a human can go through. What do we say in times of absolute grief? Sometimes sympathy messages can come across as too common and without genuine feeling. It's always best to add a personal touch, ie mention something special about the deceased. Listed below are 10 ideas which can be changed or extended to assist you when writing a sympathy card.

One of the most special sympathy gifts I received after my fathers passing was a Peace Lily Plant. That was 18 years ago and I still have the plant to this day. A sympathy gift is a symbol of thought and spending a large amount of money is not necessary to show someone you care. Plants and candles make a lovely, simple gift but the best gift of all which costs absolutely nothing is a big warm hug!
